Key Scripture
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
– Matthew 25:13
Reflection
In Matthew 25, Jesus shares the parable of the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom. Five are wise—they bring extra oil for their lamps. Five are foolish, they neglect preparation and are left outside when the bridegroom arrives unexpectedly.
This parable is a vivid picture of spiritual readiness. The wise virgins go beyond routine, they anticipate delays, guard against complacency, and prepare for any moment their Lord may come. The foolish virgins represent those who live spiritually unprepared, distracted by daily life and neglectful of their relationship with Christ.
Jesus message is clear: His return will come suddenly. Preparation cannot be borrowed or done last minute. Each believer must have their own “oil”, a living faith, a real walk with God, and the fruit of the Spirit filling their lives.
For families, this means cultivating faith together: daily prayer, studying the Word, and encouraging one another to walk in holiness. For individuals, it means not relying on others’ faith, but seeking a personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus. Only those who are ready will enter the joy of the wedding feast, the fullness of God’s kingdom.
Application
Check your oil: Is your faith genuine and active, or are you spiritually running on empty?
Invest in readiness: Daily habits of prayer, worship, and obedience keep you prepared for Christ.
Encourage your family: Help one another to stay alert and spiritually vigilant.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for Your warning and Your love. Help me and my family to be wise, preparing our hearts for Your coming. Fill us with Your Spirit, keep our faith alive, and teach us to watch and wait with joyful expectation. May we never grow complacent, but always be ready to welcome You.
In Your holy name,
Amen.
