Key Scripture
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
– Matthew 24:42
Reflection
Matthew 24 is Jesus urgent call to vigilance and readiness. As He speaks of His return, He warns that no one knows the day or hour—neither angels nor men, only the Father. The world will be distracted, busy with daily life, but God’s people are called to live watchfully.
To “watch” means more than just looking to the sky, it means living every day in faithfulness, with hearts set on eternity. When we watch and wait, we guard against spiritual slumber and worldliness. We pursue holiness, love, and truth, knowing that Jesus could come at any moment.
Paul, in Acts 24, lived with a clear conscience and bold witness, always ready to testify of Christ, whether before kings or crowds. His life was marked by readiness, not just for Christ’s return, but for every opportunity to honor God.
In our homes and families, living ready means daily prayer, forgiveness, and commitment to God’s Word. It means confessing sin quickly, loving deeply, and serving faithfully. We don’t know when Jesus will return, but we do know He is coming. Let our lives be found in joyful expectation and steadfast devotion.
Application
Keep watch: Build habits of prayer and Bible reading to keep your heart alert.
Live faithfully: Serve, love, and forgive as if today could be the day you meet Jesus.
Be ready: Make sure your relationship with Christ is personal, not just routine.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Help me to watch and wait with hope and faithfulness. Keep my heart awake to Your presence and Your promises. Purify my life, strengthen my family, and prepare us for the day of Your coming. May we be found serving, loving, and walking in truth.
In Your holy name,
Amen
